ColorOS, from Oppo, had been coated to seem like a whole new operating system. Now, Oppo has decided to trim it down and introduce a whole new OS, based upon stock Android.
Project Spectrum is what they call it. A rich, stock Android experience with the ColorOS camera app and a new audio streaming service from Waves.
It starts out with the design. With Project Spectrum, Oppo decided to keep the original Material Design look, with Android Lollipop (v5.1.1). Everything about this OS is just stock. You name it. Best part, no bloatware.
A similar company has done the same. The folks at OnePlus created OxygenOS which has the same UI elements of Android, but with small, but soothing features from OnePlus.

Next is Oppo's features. Oppo isn't just renaming Android Lollipop. They've included two features packed into Project Spectrum.
First, the ColorOS camera app. The ColorOS camera app has been redesigned, for a much more cleaner look. Yes, it may remind you of iOS 9's camera app, but that doesn't matter. As long as it functions well, then it should work greatly.
Second, Maxx Audio. Oppo has partnered up with Waves, an audio streaming service, to deliver the best in audio. Maxx Audio should give users a grand audio experience, in any streaming case, on their device.
Conclusion. I personally did not enjoy the look of ColorOS, but now Oppo has set it's side from skinning and has embraced the true colors of what Google has produced. The BETA, for Project Spectrum, has been released for the Oppo Find 7a.
